Left: common Warner type syncromesh. The brass ring rides on a bevel/cone surface and friction slows the gear down until it meshes. It is simple and relatively inexpensive to replace. Right: Servo type syncromesh. This is the Porsche clutch 'competition' type. The feel is better, but more complicated and when they wear out they are expensive to repair. Datsun transmissions may have either type.
