The changeover period was around 1968. The newer type has: * Larger stronger bearings * Larger lay shaft (counter shaft) 17mm instead of 16 mm * New retained by rollpin, so the shaft is symmetrical. The 16mm shaft took a lot of torque from 1st gear, and so in time wears out then starts making noise.
